I am really happy to feature TemporalScanner by Exergen. Just recently my 2 year old was in the ER for a very high fever. And I was in a panic. She is very stubborn and taking her temperature was very difficult. When I came upon the TemporalScanner I knew this was something I had to try! So after reading over the directions I decided to put it to use. I scanned everyone in the family which only took 2 seconds each!
How does it work?
"With a gentle stroke of the forehead it captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate. With its patented Arterial Heat Balance system the TemporalScanner measures ambient temperatures, mathematically replaces the small temperature loss from cooling at the skin, and displays an accurate arterial temperature."
How to win : You need to click and visit the TemporalScanner by Exergen then come back and leave a comment and tell me something about the TemporalScanner! Want another entry? Blog about this giveaway and leave a post that you did and where. You can also subscribe to my blog or be a follower or grab my button for additional entries. Winner will be picked using random.org. Contest will end February 23, 2009 9:00 PM EST.

With a gentle stroke of the forehead it captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate. With its patented Arterial Heat Balance system the TemporalScanner measures ambient temperatures, mathematically replaces the small temperature loss from cooling at the skin, and displays an accurate arterial temperature.

The temporal artery, easily visible in an infrared image, is scanned to find the peak temperature. The patented Arterial Heat Balance (AHB)TM method converts this peak to a core temperature by replacing the heat lost from natural cooling of the skin. And that's cool! What's really cool, though, is that it is an accurate reading - not just a number. In 2 seconds. I woouldn't have to wrestle my grandson!
Doctors know that measurement of the blood temperature in a major artery accurately reflects true body temperature.

Love that it is more accurate than the ear thermometers!!
strycker@slu.edu
The 1000 reading makes it more accurate!
A major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers
the best place to measure temperature is the center of the heart (we learn something new everyday!)

I learned that the temporal artery is the only artery close enough to the skin's surface to provide a measurable temperature that would come close to reflecting the heart's temperature.
The Exergen Temporal Scanner is able to register body temperature since the temporal artery is connected to the heart, the best place to measure body temperature.
Thanks.
